DESCRIPTION:1927 Ford Zipper Track T Roadster At the turn of the century, well known hot rod builder Darrell Zipp brought a new roadster body to market – the Track T patterned after the Ford Model T, but shorn of its fenders, top and trunk. This bobtail design blends racing technology with nostalgic street rod appeal. These little lightweight roadsters were an instant hit and though the number of them in existence is measured in dozens, not hundreds, they are a huge crowd favorite at car shows. Despite its short overall length, the chassis and wheelbase provide a stable platform for a very strong power plant, and the little car handles beautifully with sports car like performance in the curves. Offered for sale is an award winning, road proven specimen that was crafted in 2001 by Zipper Motors. It has appeared at car shows throughout California since, capturing Best of Show and other trophies along the way. This dependable hot rod has been driven an average 1500 miles a year, but it still appears virtually brand new, and it is the kind of special ride that has a timeless design that will always be in style. The engine is a Chevrolet 350 CID V8 built to ZZ430 specifications by Billings Chevrolet, modified to produce about 450 horsepower, yet dialed in to purr easily on the street. Backed by a GM 700R4 automatic overdrive transmission, it cruises at 1900 rpm at freeway speed. The mill is very strong with, of course, a four bolt main block, forged steel crankshaft, forged connecting rods, Fast Burn aluminum heads, Vortec dual plane aluminum Intake manifold, roller rockers, and aluminum water pump. “Dyno Doug” of FBR Racing in Milpitas worked his magic with an Elgin cam, bigger valves, new guides, rocker studs, timing-chain and two-piece timing-covers so that the camshaft can be changed without pulling the whole cover. A big Holley 770 CFM Street Avenger Carburetor supplies plenty of air and go juice and big exhaust pipes with Spin-Tech mufflers make beautiful music when this beast exhales exhaust. The cooling is provided by an ample aluminum radiator aided by a thermostatically-operated electric fan. Aft, a chrome plated Winters Quick-Change rear end with 3:38:1 gears gets the power to the ground. The Zipper has custom fabricated steel tube frame with three cross members and a K-member combination for a solid transmission mount. The hand laid fiberglass body is steel reinforced and has a handmade dashboard with Classic instruments, and a beautiful lipstick red leather interior, handcrafted by the legendary Howdy Ledbetter, provides eye popping contrast to the Goldenrod Yellow exterior finish. A Ford Model A grille and polished aluminum 11 gallon Moon gas tank make this hot rod a nostalgic glimpse of the past. Big Wilwood disk brakes with 12 inch rotors up front and Corvette inboard disk brakes rear ensure smooth, safe, and quick stops. This roadster has semi-eliptical springs with friction shocks front and rear with proprietary control arms, trailing arms, uprights, half-shaft, and brackets by Zipper Motors. The roadster has very stable and comfortable suspension and bigs and littles mounted on iconic 15 inch Halibrand alloy rims give the Zipper its classic appearance and awesome stance. The low center of gravity of this two seater gives it a sports car feel, and for longer cruises, a custom made luggage rack with a removable leather trunk hauls personal effects. No matter where this car goes, people grin from ear to ear as it passes. Tipping the scales at under 2000 pounds with a full tank of fuel, this little hot rod is more fun per pound than any other car. Though Zipper Motors calls their roadster a 1927, the California Title states 1926 Ford. Call to make an appointment to see for yourself how much fun it is. Thanks for looking!
